Round 2 of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup takes place this weekend as 16 teams battle it out for a place in the quarter finals of the competition.
Cardiff City, who are still unbeaten in all competitions this season following their derby day victory over Swansea City last weekend, welcome Swansea University to Leckwith. Swansea have already completed a cup upset after knocking out top tier opposition in their penalty shootout win over Barry Town United in the previous round.
Penybont are another team who have enjoyed an impressive start to the season and will be hoping to jeep their 100 per-cent record in tact as they face Cascade at SDM Glass Stadium. Katie Richards scored a hat-trick as the Bridgend side beat Newport City 5-1 in the last round to setup the meeting with Cascade, who beat Carmarthen Town in Round 1 and sit second in the Genero Adran South table.
Wrexham completed a league double over Llandudno on their way to securing promotion to the top flight last season and the pair meet again this weekend. The Reds have enjoyed a positive start to the Genero Adran Premier campaign and sit second in the league after their 3-0 win over Cardiff Met last weekend. While
An all Genero Adran South clash sees Pontardawe Town welcome last season’s runners up Briton Ferry Llansawel to Parc Ynysderw. Ferry, who sit top of the Genero Adran South, have won four out of four in the league, including a convincing victory over Pontardawe when they met in September.
Fellow Genero Adran South side Cwmbran Celtic will be looking to pull off an upset as they welcome Swansea City. Cwmbran beat Ammanford 5-1 in the last stage to reach Round 2, while Swansea edged past Cardiff Met with a 2-1 victory.
Aberaman are unbeaten in all competitions this season and beat Cardiff Wanderers 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller last month, with Verity Hetherington netting a hat-trick. They will look to pull off a cup upset against Genero Adran Premier side Pontypridd United, who have suffered three successive league defeats since their convincing victory over Penclawdd in Round 1.
Genero Adran Premier side Aberystwyth Town will have a welcome break from a difficult spell in the league as they travel to CPD Y Rhyl in Round 3. The Seasiders saw off Llanfair United in the previous round with the help of Amy Jenkins’ brace, while Sade Benjamin scored twice as Rhyl beat Llangefni Town 4-2 in Round 1.
Elsewhere, The New Saints host Y Felinheli at Park Hall as they look to build on a dramatic 4-3 win over Aberystwyth in the Genero Adran Premier last weekend. The Saints came from two goals down to secure the victory and respond to back-to-back defeats. Greg Draper’s side beat Connah’s Quay Nomads in Round 1, while Felinheli earned a 6-1 away win over CPDM Bangor with the help of Flour Williams’ hat-trick.
