Patients staying at a Penarth hospice over the Christmas period will be able to enjoy beautiful light displays thanks to generous donations.

Pontyclun-based Floodlighting and Electrical are among those who have volunteered to support the Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale, in a bid to make their Bridgeman Road gardens festive this season.

The company has installed icicle lighting as a goodwill gesture for the staff, patients and visitors to enjoy during December.

The charity had put out an appeal for outdoor lighting, in order for inpatients to enjoy Christmas displays from their rooms.

The Penarth RFC Mini and Juniors also helped the hospice select additional outdoor Christmas lighting from funds they had donated.

Gareth Roberts, managing director of Floodlighting and Electrical, said: “We are delighted to show our support for the wonderful work the team at the Marie Curie hospice provides in caring for people living with a terminal illness.

“We hope the decorations bring some festive cheer to the patients, families and staff at the hospice at the end of a particularly difficult year.”

Richard Smith, from the Penarth Minis, said: “‘We are really pleased to be able  help and hopefully brighten up the Hospice for the patients and their families in what is a difficult time for them.”

Sarah Lloyd-Davies, Interim Divisional General Manager for Marie Curie in Wales and Southern England and Hospice Lead Nurse Carolyn Gent, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who has made it possible for us to decorate the gardens for Christmas this year to help us bring some light to our patients, who are going through difficult times.

“Support from the communities we serve is always appreciated so much by us all at Marie Curie, and we want to wish everyone season’s greetings for the festive period.”
