The Red Dragon Centre has revealed the latest top brand which has signed on to become part of Cardiff Bay’s premier entertainment destination.

Simply Gym, which is run by Swansea-based Bay Leisure, will be taking over the 20,000ft² site formerly occupied by Evolution and is investing £1million to launch a brand new, state-of-the-art gym facility in September.

The hope is to make the Cardiff location Simply Gym’s flagship offering with a full studio, a spin studio with ICG bikes (complete with progress tracking apps), Hammer strength equipment, web-enabled TVs on exercise machines, a ladies’ only gym and a coffee shop serving Starbucks.

This will be the first Cardiff operation for the company, which currently runs five gyms in Wales and England, and will employ 20 new staff.

Richard Proctor, Chief Executive of Bay Leisure Ltd, said:

“We have been on the look out for a Cardiff location for a while and we’re thrilled with the one that we’ve found. The Red Dragon Centre is an excellent location, thanks in part to the new link road from the Docks, great footfall and a number of other high-profile brands.

“We have great hopes for our new site and are looking forward to launching Simply Gym in Cardiff. We hope to replicate the success we’ve already had at our other locations, offering top of the range services for a very reasonable price.”

Emma Constantinou, Marketing Manager for The Red Dragon Centre said:

“We’re very pleased that Simply Gym has chosen The Red Dragon Centre for its flagship offering and are looking forward to working closely with the team to make the venture a success.

“The former Evolution site is such a great space and it is wonderful that we’ve found a business that can maximise the unit, bringing an exciting new brand into the mix at The Centre.”

Simply Gym has five gyms across Wales and England – two in Swansea, one in Cwmbran, one in Southend-on-Sea and one in Uxbridge. It is operated by Bay Leisure Ltd, a not-for-profit company which runs leisure facilities in Wales and England.
