On Saturday 11th of September, Denbighshire Leisure Ltd will light up its attractions to remember those who tragically lost their lives 20 years ago, on the day the world stood still.

Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the day the world stood still. The September 11 attacks, referred to as 9/11, were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks that took place in the United States of America, targeting American buildings of importance, including the World Trade Centre’s twin towers and the Pentagon.

Rhyl Sky Tower, Rhyl Pavilion Theatre, 1891 restaurant and bar, the Events Arena waterfall and coastal bus shelters will all be lit up in red blue and white this Saturday to reflect the colours of the USA flag.

Almost 3,000 people lost their lives that day or from injuries sustained that day, including 441 first responders with the youngest victim only two years old. Of the thousands of people also injured, some developed fatal illnesses thereafter connected to the attacks including firefighters who had fought through toxic debris.

Managing Director of Denbighshire Leisure Ltd Jamie Groves said “It’s hard to believe that 20 years have gone by since the tragic events of 9/11. In lighting up Denbighshire Leisure’s attractions in Rhyl, we would like everyone in Denbighshire and beyond to join us in paying tribute to all those who lost their lives and to the heroic emergency workers who put their lives at risk that day. It’s so important for us to remember days like this, to keep us grounded and appreciate every moment with our friends and family.”
