A family-owned bakery in Snowdonia is celebrating 15 years of a successful partnership Aldi.
Located in the village of Llanllechid, Popty Bakery started supplying its award-winning Welsh Cakes to the supermarket back in 2007.
Made using an old family recipe, the Welsh Cakes are a popular choice amongst Aldi customers across the UK, receiving multiple accolades, including the prestigious Guild of Fine Foods Great Taste Gold Star Award in 2020.
Popty Bakery was founded in the early 1900s and is now run by the third generation of the same family. The long-term partnership with Aldi has helped the bakery enjoy significant growth over the years, now employing more than 20 people and supplying to over 140 Aldi stores.
With households celebrating St David’s Day earlier this week, the bakery saw demand for its Welsh Cakes more than double, supplying over 30,000 Welsh Cakes to Aldi in the one week prior alone.
Dave Fox, Office Manager at Popty Bakery, said: “The success of our long-standing partnership with Aldi over the past decade and a half has been brilliant for the business, helping us to considerably grow our workforce and develop our production line.
“We’re really proud of the strong collaborative relationship we’ve formed over the years and hope Aldi customers across the country enjoyed tucking into our Welsh Cakes for St David’s Day.”
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “Popty Bakery has been a valued supplier at Aldi for 15 years and its delicious Welsh Cakes always perform well with our shoppers.
“We’re delighted to support a family-run business with such a strong Welsh heritage, helping us to provide our customers with an award-winning product that is simply irresistible.”
