Work on a brand-new children’s placement and assessment hub in Brynmenyn is now underway, the facility is being built on the site of a former primary school in the area. The initial works on site involved the demolition of the old school in August 2021.
The project is for the construction of a new two-storey detached building which will be a new Children’s Placement and Assessment Hub. The facility, which is jointly funded by Bridgend County Borough Council and Welsh Government through the Integrated Care Fund (ICF) capital programme, will bring together a range of services for children and young people.
The hub will be the base for the local authority’s fostering and placement teams in addition to providing accommodation and support for children and young people aged 8 to 17 years old. The hub will enable the local authority to work towards providing placements for vulnerable children across the county borough.
I am delighted with the site and the potential that it offers for our young people in the county borough.
It’s got lovely views and is very scenic and relaxing, which is something that they need; quite often, it’s a very difficult time in their life and they’ve experienced significant childhood trauma.
We need to support them as much as we can and if we can do that in an environment that is protective, safe and gives them opportunities for development, that’s marvellous.
Councillor Jane Gebbie, Cabinet Member for Social Services and Early Help
The construction work will be undertaken by Troika Construction and the hub is set to open in Summer 2022.
