Video Games with the most swear words revealed

Cyberpunk 2077 is the video game with the highest ‘Curse Count’, with more than 700 incidences of profanity

A platform for fandoms and online communities has revealed that the video game ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ is the most popular video game with the highest ‘Curse Count’. Conducting a study into IMDB’s most popular 18+ video games*, the platform has discovered that ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ is the game with the most profanity, with more than 700 incidences of offensive swear words in the game’s script. ‘Grand Theft Auto IV’ was discovered to be the second video game with the highest ‘Curse Count’, followed by ‘Grand Theft Auto V’.

Conducting a study into IMDB’s most popular 18+ video games, FandomSpot.com, has revealed a list of the world’s favourite games with the most profanity. The research found that the action role-playing game ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ is top of the ‘Curse Count’ list, with more than 700 incidents of offensive swear words in its script.

The top 10 most popular video games with the highest ‘Curse Count’ are:

  5. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – 501

The study counted how many times offensive swear words were said. Some of the words tallied include ‘f**k’ and variations of the word such as ‘m**********r’, ‘c**t’, ‘b***h’ and ‘s**t’.

Of the 722 swear words in ‘Cyberpunk 2077’, more than 60% of the swear words used was ‘f**k’ and variations of the word, being used 449 times, followed by ‘s**t’ which was used 208 times in total across the game’s script.

Although it doesn’t make the shortlist of IMDB’s most popular 18+ video games, ‘Scarface: The World is Yours’ holds a Guinness World Record for the most swearing in a video game containing 5,688 instances of the word *f**k* out of 31,000 lines in the dialogue.

“Swearing has become a very normal thing you see in video games nowadays with most game scripts using profanity, especially in the 18+ genre. Despite the age restrictions we all know it doesn’t limit players below that age playing these games, therefore there can still be controversy around games using bad language as a result.

“Conducting this study to find the ‘Curse Count’ of our most popular games has been really interesting and we hope the findings prove interesting to gamers whether they dislike the use of profanity in games or not. We also hope the findings can be helpful to any parents who may be worried about the use of bad language in the games their children play, and hopefully it can highlight to them which games may be ‘better’ or ‘worse’ for this.”
