Public asked for views on new park and ride site in Swansea

Swansea Council is making plans to relocate one of its Park & Ride sites at Landore.

The current site is earmarked for redevelopment as part of the ongoing Hafod Copper Works regeneration programme, which has already seen part of the historic site developed into a new site for the famous Penderyn Distillery company.

A public consultation has now opened, seeking the views of park and ride users, so that a new site can meet the needs of future travellers.

Two alternative sites within Swansea Vale are in the running for the relocation of the park and ride site.

Both potential sites at Blawd Road and Heron Drive are closer to the M4 and have the potential to include more than 1,300 parking spaces.

The Council now wants to hear from the public so their views can be considered ahead of a decision on which site is chosen.

Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Environment & Infrastructure, said: “The current Landore Park & Ride site is required as part of the longer term regeneration of the Copper Works site.

“Park & Ride remains a priority for the Council, in terms of providing sustainable travel options for people who want to visit the city centre for work or leisure.

“The site options provide excellent access directly from the M4, making it easy for  commuters and other visitors to park outside the city centre and use public transport to further their journey into the city centre.

“Our existing park and ride sites at Landore and Fabian Way were both developed many years ago and have been upgraded over time to provide facilities for cyclists and also the installation of electric vehicle charging points.

“We are keen to hear from motorists about their needs and requirements ahead of the development of a new site and I would encourage everyone who uses park and ride to get involved.”

The public consultation on the relocation of Landore Park & Ride will run until November 30 and can be accessed at www.swansea.gov.uk/parkandridesurvey
