Gatland’s RWC 2023 Strategy: Are Wales Showing Signs Of Desperation?

Wales national team met Gatland’s return to the Welsh coaching set-up with approval from the Welsh public and media, who were keen to see him leading Wales once more. There was also an air of inevitability about Gatland’s recruitment.

The NZRU were reluctant to lose Gatland but happy to give him a well-funded send-off as he ended his decade in charge of the All Blacks. His time at the helm of Wales had been an enormous success.

Why Do The Wales Rugby Team Need Gatland?

Gatland is a massive shot in the arm for Wales rugby. He has been a hugely successful coach during his reign as Wales coach. He guided Wales to their best-ever performance at the 2011 World Cup, where they reached the semi-finals before being beaten by New Zealand.

Warren has been the architect of some of the most successful years in Welsh rugby history. The Welsh Rugby Union will extend his contract until after the next World Cup.

Gatland has proven to be adaptable, an essential skill for any coach. At Wasps, he was instrumental in building the foundations of a club that became one of the most successful in Europe. He has shown that he can handle different play styles internationally while maintaining consistency in winning games.

Gatland is an experienced coach whose coaching philosophy involves creating teamwork between his players. In his experience as a player, teamwork helped him win games and championships, so he aims to instill this in his players.

His goal is to create camaraderie among his players. Teamwork helps them to trust each other on the field. It’ll help them to support each other in both attack and defence. Teamwork will help them get back into position if someone gets knocked over or loses their place during play.

The Rugby World Cup: Sponsorships And Online Casinos

The Rugby World Cup has always been a big deal in Wales. It’s a chance for the country to show off its finest sporting talent and provides opportunities for businesses to get involved. One way to do this is by seeking sponsorships.

It can effectively boost your business profile while also getting you noticed by consumers who are already interested in your offer. If you’re looking for a comprehensive package where everything comes together perfectly, look no further than our list of best UK online casinos with a licence.

Gatland’s Backroom Team

Gatland’s backroom team is a mixture of seasoned coaches and new faces. The Wales head coach has recruited three new assistant coaches to his squad this summer: Stephen Jones (attack coach), Jonathan Humphreys (forwards coach) and Gethin Jenkins (defence coach). In addition to these appointments, Gatland also has Neil Jenkins on board as a skills coach.

Attack Coach: Stephen Jones

Stephen Jones is one of the most influential figures in the history of Welsh rugby. A World Cup winner and a national hero at scrum half. He became one of the most significant attack coaches in rugby history.

Jones adopted an expansive rugby style for Llanelli RFC, which he coached in the 1980s. This style was then adopted by Warren Gatland when he coached Wales. Stephen Jones helped coach the Scarlets to a thrilling PRO12 title in 2015.

Even though there were plenty of obstacles to winning the championship, they didn’t let any of them get in their way. They enjoyed every moment of being champions. In 2016, Stephen Jones helped Simon Pivac coach the Champions Cup semi-final.

Forwards Coach: Jonathan Humphreys

Gatland and Humphreys have never worked together before. He was part of Wales’ coaching staff during the 2009 Rugby World Cup. He got to see Humphreys’ work firsthand and was impressed by his contribution. It was no surprise that Gatland decided to bring him on board when he took over as Wale’s head coach this month.

Defence Coach: Gethin Jenkins

As a player, coach Warren Gatland was a massive fan of Gethin Jenkins. When it came time to find a defensive system for the Welsh squad, he looked to his star player for inspiration. The result?

Gethin is relentless in his work rate. He is always up around the ball. Gatland said, if you look at what we’re trying to do as a team, we want every player to be around the ball at all times.

Skills Coach: Neil Jenkins

Gatland has enormous respect for the former Wales outside half, Neil Jenkins. Jenkins was part of his back-room staff for 12 years. He’s hugely respected by the players, who have sung his praises since he accepted the challenge of coaching the region. He knows them inside out, says Gatland, who feels that Jenkins will have no trouble fitting in with a squad.

Try!

There’s no doubt that Gatland knows his stuff when it comes to coaching. There’s some hope that his changes will result in a better performance by Wales at the RWC. We’ve yet to see any alteration of pride or belief in the Welsh camp. Regardless of the result in 2023, they will need to seriously assess their mentality and squad building if they are to challenge the top teams.
