The Calon y Fferi Community Centre in Ferryside recently launched its new ‘Warm Space,’ as it looks to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, offering local residents a warm, dry place to socialise.
With assistance from Carmarthenshire County Council, the new Community Lounge will be open every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 10.00am – 4.00pm, and will run up until the end of March 2023.
Julia Amsbury, Community Centre manager, said, “As the cost-of-living crisis bites harder for so many, our Warm Space is based on a simple idea: turn off your heating and come and use ours instead. There’s plenty for people to do: we have board games, newspapers, a television and the free use of a computer. Everyone is invited, young and old. There’ll be a warm welcome, friendly chat, free refreshments as well as the chance to socialise and meet new people”.
The Community Lounge has also received additional funding to hold a series of free workshops and activities over the coming months in which everyone is welcome to take part. The centre has already hosted other workshops including poetry writing, ceramic pot making, chair yoga and a visible mending workshop.
Calon y Fferi wants to do as much as possible to help its residents in these extremely difficult times. Thanks to funding from Carmarthenshire County Council, they’ve been able to work quickly to establish a series of events and activities where people can keep warm whilst having fun together.
