A brand-new café and street food venue is set to open at The Bone Yard in Canton next month.
Promising all-day brunches at the weekend, and all-day coffee from 8am Wednesday to Sunday, the new venue – called TwentySix – will also play host to a regular rotation of street food traders from 3 – 10pm, Thursday to Sunday.
A fully licensed bar will serve a selection of beers, wines and spirits, plus regular cocktail specials throughout the year.
The venue is the brainchild of established street food trader Helen Gorman, best known for founding Bad Boy Brownies, a side hustle that became a full time business during the pandemic.
Helen has also developed various other brands, including Pwdin and Cracklin, pulling on her experience as a development chef; over the last couple of years these brands have been out on the road touring various street food festivals and events.
Most recently, Helen’s TOAST brand (best-known for homemade harissa butter and fluffy American pancakes) has been serving up cult breakfasts, freshly squeezed OJ and coffee at Canton’s popular Corp Market.
Next, Helen will be taking over the former Dusty’s Pizza site at The Bone Yard to run TOAST from a permanent venue. She says that the creation of TwentySix feels like the culmination of all of her foodie adventures to date.
She explained, “I’ve been in the pop up / street food business for the past few years, doing all of the usual festivals and pop ups and kitchen takeovers – but I always had it in my head that one day, there would be a permanent venue for me. When this opportunity came up, it just felt like the time was right.
I named the venue after my nephew’s birthday as it’s a date that’s meaningful to me; now I can’t wait to get TwentySix open.”
Helen’s weekend brunch menu will include TOAST’s popular brunch favourites like American Pancakes with Crispy Bacon & Maple Syrup, Sourdough Toast with Harissa Butter, Poached Egg & Halloumi, as well as her Vegan Breakfast Enchiladas and new dishes, too.
With a planned opening date in of the ‘end of February’ so far Helen has also managed to book an impressive roster of award-winning guest traders to pop up at TwentySix in the first weeks and months, including Keralan Karavan, Fire & Flank, Franks Hot Dogs, Kapow Ribs, Reaper, Ringo’s Dirty Diner, The Rock & Scallop, Pasta Al Sugo, Laksa Shack and Bao Selecta.
In partnership with Martyn Watkins of Richkin’s Woodcraft (also based at The Bone Yard) Helen is planning a new, monthly event called the ‘Bone Yard Bazaar’ which will encompass arts & crafts, various street food traders, fresh produce and more. Anyone interested in a pitch is encouraged to get in contact with Helen via instagram.
The first ‘Bone Yard Bazaar’ will take place on Saturday 4th March.
