Consultation launched on improvements to Newport school

St Andrew’s Primary School

A pre-planning consultation for the new St Andrew’s Primary School key stage two (junior) block is launched today.

The proposed three-storey building will provide an excellent teaching environment where pupils can thrive and enjoy learning.

Members of the public and specialist consultees can give their views on the plans which will be included as part of the planning application due to be submitted later this year.

Following a further period of consultation, the application will be considered by Newport City Council’s full planning committee.

The key stage two building on the St Andrew’s site in Lliswerry was closed because of significant structural issues, including complex foundation defects, and was demolished last year.

Junior pupils and staff have been relocated in Newport Live’s Connect building where learning has continued in a safe and pleasant environment. Younger children have remained on site as other buildings were unaffected.

Parents have been given details of the consultation and further information on the construction works will be made available following the appointment of the main contractor.

The consultation ends on 13 March and more information, including the relevant documents, can be found at www.kewplanning.co.uk/consultations.

Hard copies of the documents will also be available to view at the Civic Centre, Godfrey Road, NP20 4UR, Mon-Fri, 8.30am-5.30pm until 13 March.
