RCT Council has confirmed that it will officially take over the operation of Catherine Street Car Park in Pontypridd, starting from when the facility reopens on Monday, March 20.
During 2022, NCP decided to end its contract for the running of this private car park at short notice. Working with the facility’s owner Trivallis, the Council gave a commitment to securing a positive outcome for the future of the car park, given its popularity with Pontypridd town centre visitors and workers.
The Council has been working closely with Trivallis to complete the processes that will enable it to take over the running of the facility. The car park has recently been closed since February 27, so Trivallis could undertake a thorough cleaning of the facility, along with other maintenance activity.
The car park will reopen on Monday, March 20. Long-stay parking charges will begin from this date (£1 for up to four hours, £2 for longer), in line with the Council’s standard charging for long-stay facilities.
New ticket machines have been installed in the car park, along with signage showing the updated tariffs. The Council’s pricing is significantly cheaper than the previous charges from the former car park operator. Council car park season tickets (parking permits) are able to be used at this facility.
