Group gets helping hand at first Lads & Dads allotment in Bridgend

Kind-hearted rail contractor, QTS Group, has been working alongside local support organisation Lads & Dads to carry out improvement works at the group’s first allotment in Brackla, Bridgend.

QTS, who have been working on the Llanharan to Bridgend line, reached out to Lads & Dads to offer their help, free of charge, for this project.

Over a three day period, QTS staff took part in an array of activities including building polytunnels, clearing planting areas, removing rubbish and then constructing and painting a shed.

Rob Lester, chairman of Lads & Dads said:

“The help from the QTS staff has been invaluable to us and nothing has really been too much trouble. The team has arrived each day, eager to get stuck in and help and they’ve done a fantastic job.

“This allotment is another way for us to help to create space for people to take a step back from their day to day and have the opportunity to speak to likeminded individuals in a confidential space. It will also help facilitate a sense of routine for members, with growing and sustaining a focus in the summer, and then we can harvest into the autumn.”

Gary Burnett, Operations Director for QTS commented:

“QTS is always keen to get involved with community initiatives in the areas that we are working within. When we heard about the great work that Lads & Dads do within Bridgend and beyond, we knew we wanted help somehow.

“Our team has enjoyed the experience of working at the allotment and learning more about the group and how it helps men with their mental wellbeing.

“Having the opportunity to carry out positive social value in the community is also a really great thing for our team to be a part of for their own mental health and wellbeing, so we were glad to be of assistance in this project.”
