Seaweed ‘Hot Tub’ Barrels Launched on Anglesey Coastline

Anglesey, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, known for its beaches and ancient sites, is now also home to the first business in Wales to offer traditional, and wild, seaweed baths. With unparalleled views of the coastline, Halen Môn offers customers the opportunity to soak in fresh seaweed and warm water, in their own individual upcycled whisky barrel.

The world is cluttered with people trying to do the same thing, sell the same product, forcing businesses to come up with experimental ways to bring in customers and make sure they are up to date with the latest trends. In the world of fashion, for example, companies are cashing in on the artificial intelligence trend, using the technology to help create better-selling designs, reduce marketing costs and speed up processes. In the gambling industry, one of the latest trends that casinos are jumping on is incorporating social features into their platforms, allowing players to connect and compete with each other in real time while playing online casino games.

In the world of health and beauty, seaweed has become a big trend, sought-after for its nutritional and health benefits, and businesses have been striving to come up with innovative and exciting ways to use this product. Step up Halen Môn, who have jumped on the seaweed trend and turned it into a unique and relaxing spa like experience.

The mighty kelp is a time-honoured favourite in spa treatments, popular for its ability to rehydrate the skin with its natural oils, alleviate muscular pain and eliminate toxins. Due to its magnesium content, it also helps to promote a good night’s sleep. It is definitely full of big ocean energy.

Bathing in seaweed for its nurturing, restorative and healing properties is nothing new, in fact, it has been around for hundreds of years. When combined with warm water, it releases its mineral-dense oils offering rich relaxation and the soothing of tired muscles.

Seaweed baths were common in Europe at the turn of the 19th century, with Ireland boasting 300 or so traditional ‘bathhouses’, some of which are still in use today.

However, this is a first for the Welsh island, and a first for Wales itself. Mix this with the unique element of the individually upcycled whisky barrels, the stunning views, and it’s clear that Halen Môn has potentially created something rather wonderful and an encouraging escape from the everyday.

At Halen Môn, they are trying to be as environmentally friendly as possible. This means using pure water generated as a by-product of their sea salt bathing experience alongside sustainable seaweed, which hasn’t required soil, fertilizer or fresh water to grow. When harvested at the right time, it even encourages more regrowth.

The spot, which overlooks the Strait and Eryri, is renowned for its natural beauty. Come rain or shine, customers are invited to soak up the experience, leaving feeling relaxed and with nourished skin. Co-founder, David Lea-Wilson, has said that he knows it may seem like an unusual idea, but the uniqueness of the business has led them to have a healthy waiting list of people wanting to jump into one of their barrels and experience something a bit out of the ordinary.
