When Ogmore Valley Life Centre opened its doors to the public back in March 1993, the county’s attitude to health and fitness was very different. Very few people had thought of paying for a bottle of water, thousands still lit up cigarettes in public places and no one had ever heard of Zumba, Indoor Cycling or HIIT!  But times change and Ogmore Valley Life Centre has been there every step of the way to get more local people, more active, more often.

“Since the Centre officially opened its doors to the local community 30 years ago this month, it has really made a difference when it comes to helping local people get fit and active. I enjoy helping create a community resource that is a hub for the Valley and is welcoming for all ages”  said Scott Hancock, General Manager at the Centre

“Since the centre and Halo Leisure joined forces in 2012 we have registered an estimated 765,603 attendances and delivered over 154,704 gym workouts – that’s some serious sweat and effort!!”

Top 10 reasons to celebrate 30 years at Ogmore Valley Life Centre and Halo Leisure:

    1. The centre is open for 86 hours per week.
    2. Customers can work out or wind down in the gym and through an exciting group exercise class programme. The sports hall also provides opportunities for team games. You can also wind down in the onsite library.
    3. Halo members at Ogmore Valley Life Centre are also able to enjoy the membership facilities at Halo Garw Valley Life Centre.
    4. The Bounce and Play sessions provide children with opportunities to play, improve their coordination, and socialise with other children their age.
    5. We help you live longer, literally, with the work we do with your local GP and the national exercise referral scheme.
    6. The centre runs weekly Feel Good for Life sessions aimed at providing people living with dementia, loneliness or depression the opportunity to be active and to socialise.
    7. If you use the centre at least twice a week, you could save money with a Halo membership. Or you can enjoy activities through  ‘pay as you play’.
    8. Price should never be a barrier to taking part which is why Halo has an accessible pricing policy. We offer discounted membership for people on certain means tested benefits.
    9. Halo Leisure is an award winning Social Enterprise – recognised for its work in supporting local communities to participate in some form of physical activity.
    10. SPECIAL MEMBERSHIP OFFER – join during May 2023 for 30p (that’s a potential saving of between £11.65 and £22.70 (depending on the membership package you are on). Why not try before you buy, claim your Complimentary 7 day guest pass so you can enjoy the facilities for free for a week at www.haloleisure.org.uk/7daypass

Councillor Rhys Goode, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing and Future Generations, said: “Over the last 30 years, Ogmore Valley Life Centre has become the beating heart of our community here!

“The centre is so inclusive, offering a place for everyone.  It accommodates those wanting to improve their health and fitness, activities for families and children, as well those seeking social connection and interaction, with the availability of the ‘Feel Good for Life’ sessions – even those just looking for a cuppa!

“The staff are deeply committed to and connected with our local residents, with the centre claiming the award for ‘Halo Centre of the Year 2022’.  Scott Hancock, the General Manager, and Betty Kerry, a widely respected volunteer, were also both presented with individual awards at the ceremony for their excellent work.

“This is the perfect opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the hugely positive impact the Life Centre has on the Ogmore Valley. I’m so excited to see what Scott and the team has planned for the years to come!”
