Fiona Argent

ALS Training, a leading provider of training, learning and development solutions in Wales, has appointed Fiona Argent as its new Director of Delivery.

ALS designs and delivers training and development solutions to service both employer and employee needs as part of the ACT and Cardiff and Vale College (CAVC) Group, supporting 2,300 apprentices on a weekly basis to achieve their goals.

Highly experienced in the post-16 education sector, Fiona will support the organisation’s operational delivery team in ensuring the ALS Learning Journey it provides continues offering improved services to learners studying at all levels.

From blended learning to 100% online delivery solutions, the appointment will help support the quality of teaching learners receive, alongside use of the latest learning technologies, to create positive outcomes for all and the wider success of ALS generally.

Formerly Project Director at Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Creative Leadership and Enterprise Centre, Fiona’s background includes training staff for the Ebbw Vale Garden Festival, occupying a national role leading in the implementation of the original ‘Modern Apprenticeships’, and working as Head of Quality for the National Training Federation of Wales.

She said: “I started my working career creating and delivering learning solutions, with the path I then followed leading me into the quality side of the learning process, which was further expanded by my involvement with employer solutions and project implementation on a national and local basis.”

“My experiences across all these aspects of post-16 learning have now led me full circle to ALS, and I’m really excited for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

ALS’s Learning and Development Division is accredited to deliver development programmes by the Welsh Government Department for Education, Lifelong Learning & Skills, and the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

It is also an accredited course provider of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and the specialist awarding organisation for engineering and manufacturing, EAL.

Based in Cardiff, the organisation was previously known as Acorn Learning before partnering with ACT Training following its acquisition by the Cardiff and Vale College Group in 2018. Today, it forms part of what is Wales’ largest work-based learning provider and a skills powerhouse for the Cardiff Capital Region, for Wales and beyond.

Sarah John, ALS Board Director said: “Securing Fiona in the role of Director of Delivery is a great opportunity for ALS to move forward as it continues to focus on the further development and implementation of our Apprenticeship offering, specifically Digital, Professional and Insurance services. Fiona’s reputation precedes her and as a team we are so looking forward to her starting.”
