A Swansea beach has been named one of the world’s most beautiful alongside beaches in Thailand, the Caribbean and the Philippines.
Rhossili Bay on Gower is one of only two UK beaches to feature in a Big 7 Travel list of the planet’s 50 must-see beaches.
Factors like popularity and how often the beaches feature in rankings of the prettiest coastal spots in the world were among those considered by the team at the travel website.
Other famous world beaches to have made the cut include Cabo San Juan Beach in Colombia, Whitehaven Beach in Australia, and Navagio Beach in Zakynthos.
The naming of Rhossili Bay among the world’s best beaches follows-on from all work Swansea Council’s tourism team does to raise the profile of Swansea as a visitor destination.
This has included its Happy Place campaign and, launched this year, a Swansea Bay trails campaign.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: “We’re lucky in Swansea to have some world-class beaches like Rhossili Bay, which have no doubt been well-used this week as many of us continue to enjoy the best sunshine and warmest temperatures we’ve had for several months.
“As a council, we already do all we can to promote our beaches across the UK and beyond, although Rhossili Bay being named among the world’s best 50 beaches even further raises awareness of Swansea as a year-round visitor destination.
“Tourism plays a key role in Swansea’s economy because of the number of local people the industry employs and the visitor spend it generates.
“Building on the success of our destination marketing over the years, future online and outdoor media campaigns will continue to reflect this.”
The council’s Visit Swansea Bay social media channels continue to be seen by millions.
Its Facebook page has reached more than 6.4 million people this year, with the number of likes, shares, comments and link clicks up over 114% compared to 2022.
