An upgraded culvert system will be installed at a bridge in the rural area of Gelliwion Road Maesycoed from Monday, September 25.
The Nant Gelliwion Bridge is located at the sharp bends towards the southern end of Gelliwion Road, to the west of Penycoedcae and south west of Graig.
Walters UK Ltd is the appointed contractor to undertake the work, which will alleviate the risk of carriageway flooding using Welsh Government funding earmarked for Storm Dennis repairs.
The bridge will be replaced with a larger culvert system – while the road will be widened to help vehicle movements.
Other work will include constructing upstream training walls, installing soil nails to support the edge of the road, erecting a vehicle barrier, renewing the drainage system, and resurfacing the road.
A road closure is required to the southern section of Gelliwion Road, from its junction with Tonyrefail Road to Ty-Draw.
An alternative route is via Tonyrefail Road, Llantrisant Road, Factory Lane and Gelliwion Road. The closure will be in place until early January 2024.
The closure will prevent through access to and from Tonyrefail Road. Access will not be maintained for emergency service vehicles nor pedestrians.
Access for residents/businesses will be maintained via the Maesycoed side of the closure. They have received a letter outlining the temporary arrangements.
