Swansea residents already benefiting from new city centre app

Over 550 residents have already installed a new web-based Swansea city centre rewards app since its launch last week.

The web-based app gives access to offers in shops and restaurants, as well as information about what’s on in the city centre.

It’s being run by Swansea Business Improvement District (BID) and funded by Swansea Council.

Replacing the old Big Heart of Swansea app, residents can benefit from the new one by visiting app.bigheartofswansea.co.uk and installing it on their mobile devices.

The web-based app also includes a searchable directory of city centre businesses, as well as their opening hours, locations and directions to get them.

Other features of the web-based app include a dining out section with listings of Swansea city centre restaurants and cafes.

To show they live in Swansea and get access to the offers on the app, residents can create an account by heading for the app’s log-in page via the menu. They will then be asked for an email address, to create a password and to submit their Swansea postcode.

When residents claim an offer, they’ll then be shown a QR code on their mobile device that they can use in-store at the business providing the deal.

Cllr Andrea Lewis, Swansea Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Service Transformation, said: “It’s encouraging to hear that hundreds of residents have already installed the new web-based app because it’s very much aimed at benefiting local people and city centre businesses.

“City centre businesses will be adding more exclusive offers for Swansea residents and information about events and other activities over the coming weeks and months, so it’s definitely an app that’s worth having and regularly checking to find out about the latest discounts and entertainment available in the city centre.

“This is the first phase of the web-based app, which will evolve over time to include far more information.”

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: “The new web based-app builds on everything else we’re doing to support our city centre businesses because we recognise how important the city centre is for both local employment and the local economy.

“An investment of over £1bn is ongoing to transform the city centre and we’ve recently launched an ‘Enjoy Your City Centre’ campaign on the council’s Facebook and Instagram accounts to raise awareness of our fantastic city centre businesses – from shops, the indoor market and restaurants to cafes, activity businesses, cultural venues, pubs and professional service providers.”

Andrew Douglas, of Swansea BID, said: “We are pleased to see that so many Swansea residents are enjoying the new Big Heart of Swansea app. This web-based platform was designed for the benefit of local people and businesses, and to see growing engagement and sign-up numbers is positive news for our city centre.

“This centralised digital hub is already proving popular with Swansea residents, offering discount codes, offers, events and an in-built loyalty rewards scheme. We are confident in the future development of the app.”

The web-based app is also linked to the new city centre loyalty card scheme that enables residents to build up points for shopping in participating businesses, with the chance to win a monthly prize.

City centre businesses interested in adding their details or offers to the web-based app are asked to contact Swansea BID by either emailing [email protected] or calling 01792 475021.
