The Vale of Glamorgan Council has recently installed outdoor fitness equipment for the community at Wenvoe Recreation Ground.
The facilities have been funded by Section 106 contributions from nearby develop
ments for investment in community facilities at a cost of £60,000.
The views of the community were sought on what equipment they would like to see installed at this site, off Station Road East, following other improvements to nearby play areas.
The fitness equipment is aimed at those aged 14+ or over 1.4m in height and includes inclusive elements as well as equipment to improve cardio and strength fitness.
Cllr Mark Wilson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, tested the equipment recently and said: “I think it’s really important for the community in Wenvoe to be able to access outdoor fitness equipment free of charge. It is designed to be inclusive and can be accessed from nearby active travel networks, meaning there are now more sustainable and cost-effective ways to exercise in the local area.”
Cllr Gwyn John, Cabinet Member for Leisure, added: “It’s fantastic to see the new fitness equipment on offer here in addition to the newly refurbished tennis courts and the recreation ground which is used for Football and Cricket. I hope it’s well used by all who visit here.”
Residents are invited to attend a free one-hour training session, offered by Wicksteed Leisure Ltd, the company who have installed the equipment, on Saturday 4 November at 11am. This will include demonstrations on how to use the equipment.
