Have your say on housing development plans for Welshpool

Residents living in Welshpool have an opportunity to have their say on plans for a proposed housing development in the town, Powys County Council has said.

The council is looking to build 16, highly insulated and eco-friendly bungalows on the site of the former Gungrog Church in Wales Nursery and Infant School.

A pre-application consultation has now started for the proposed development, which will run until Tuesday, December 19, to allow interested parties to comment on the plans before a planning application is submitted.

If planning permission is granted, the new homes will be owned and managed by the council and allocated to tenants through ‘Homes in Powys’ – the one stop shop for all social housing in the county.

Cllr Matthew Dorrance, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for a Fairer Powys, said: “One of the priorities of the council is to tackle the housing emergency in the county and this can be achieved by building high quality council housing.

“Our proposed development on the site which the former Gungrog Church in Wales Nursery and Infant School in Welshpool occupies is going to be important as we look to meet this priority and build a stronger, fairer, greener future for this community.

“The pre-application consultation is important as it gives the local community an opportunity to have their say on the plans before we submit a planning application.”

The pre-application consultation will close on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
