First images released of Bellway’s development on former steelworks site

Bellway Wales has released the first images of the new homes it is building at its latest development on the former Llanwern Steelworks in Newport.

Alder Grove will be the third housing development to be delivered by Bellway at Glan Llyn, a major regeneration scheme which is transforming 600 acres of land on the eastern edge of the city.

There will be 191 properties for private sale, featuring a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses, and 25 affordable homes for low-cost rent or shared ownership, ranging from one and two-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses.

Situated on a 12-acre site within the eastern half of the wider neighbourhood, Alder Grove will have three play areas, including one in a main central square. A greenway with a footway and cycle path will run along the western boundary of the site, linking the A4810 Queensway in the south to Glan Llyn’s central lakes in the north.

Daniel Shone, Head of Sales for Bellway Wales, said: “These computer-generated images provide a first glimpse of the style and appearance of the new homes we are building at Alder Grove. A mix of apartments and houses ranging from two to three storeys in height will create a varied and interesting street scene, while the homes will be built with red and buff brick to reflect the character of existing properties in the area.

“Construction work is well underway and we are looking forward to welcoming visitors to the site when we officially launch the development this spring. Given how the build is progressing, we anticipate being able to hand over the keys to the first residents in Autumn.”

Bellway’s newest development at Glan Llyn follows the completion of 182 new homes at Monks Meadow and 152 properties at Heron’s Mead, which are both located towards the north- western corner of the wider scheme – close to Glan Llyn Primary School which opened in 2019. There are plans for a second primary school to be built on land to the north of Alder Grove.

Daniel said: “Alder Grove is the latest chapter in our ongoing commitment to this vital regeneration project in Newport. We have been building at Glan Llyn for more than eight years and by the time we complete construction work at Alder Grove we will have delivered more than 500 homes across the wider neighbourhood.

“There is already a well-established and thriving community at Glan Llyn, with a primary school, parks and open spaces, and a pub, as well as a wide range of social events organised throughout the year.

“This has made Glan Llyn a popular destination for housebuyers from Newport and along the M4 corridor. We have seen particularly strong interest from people in Bristol looking to relocate in search of better value homes.”
