This May half term Mermaid Quay will be hosting Water and Wildlife Week with a host of free family friendly activities focused on water safety awareness and the importance of preserving the local environment.

In collaboration with local emergency services, including South Wales Police, the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution), and St John Cymru, the event hosted by Mermaid Quay will feature demonstrations, educational information sessions, and interactive activities designed to engage adults and children alike.

Here’s a look at what will be taking place during the week:

    • Wednesday, May 29th, 2024: Visitors can enjoy free face painting between 12pm and 4pm at Tacoma Square, courtesy of Cardiff and Newport Face Painting.
    • Thursday, May 30th, 2024: South Wales Police will be present from 1:30pm onwards to promote their Operation Seabird Campaign. This initiative is dedicated to raising awareness about the fragility of coastal ecosystems and educating the public about simple actions they can take to alleviate pressure on local wildlife.
    • Friday, May 31st, 2024: The RNLI and St John Cymru will be onsite from 12pm to 4pm, offering essential skills demonstrations such as CPR and defibrillator usage. This session aims to equip attendees with life-saving knowledge that could prove invaluable in emergency situations.
    • Saturday, June 1st, 2024: Free face painting will be available between 12pm and 4pm at Tacoma Square, provided by Cardiff and Newport Face Painting.

Mermaid Quay invites visitors to visit the waterfront this half term to learn, engage, and contribute to the safety and wellbeing of the local environment.
