Will Wales Inspire the Next Wave of Casino Gaming Trends?

Software developers, particularly those in the gambling sector, love history. Scroll through the average online casino gaming lobby, and you’ll see historical tributes from all manner of time periods and cultures.

As is often the case in pop culture, Rome and Greece are used in abundance. However, when you dig a little deeper, you’ll see that a lot of popular online slots contain iconography from other historical icons, such as the Mayans and Aztecs.

Casino Games Inspired by Historical Legends

Take, for example, the Temple Tumble slots game. Created by Relax Gaming, this Aztec-themed slot features 46,656 paylines and features such as cascading reels. These features are flanked by Aztec imagery and a series of video vignettes. All of these elements combine to create a game that’s not just a series of spinning symbols.

It’s atmospheric and engaging. For all intents and purposes, Temple Tumble is a visual representation of the Aztec period as much as a casino game. The same is true of other historical slots, which raises the question: could Welsh history ever inspire software developers?

Welsh History Has a Lot to Offer

The simple answer is yes. OK, so Celts don’t have as much cachet as the Romans or Vikings, for example. However, with over 230,000 years’ worth of history to draw from, there must be a place for Welsh culture within the gaming world. For example, a software company wanting to create a dark and ominous slot could tell the story of the Red Lady of Paviland.

Regarded as the first formal human burial in Europe, the bones of the Red Lady (biologically a man) were dyed red and buried approximately 33,000 years ago. Archaeologists found the remains in a sea cave on the Gower Peninsula, another detail that could add to the game.

A slot game could also tell the story of Caractacus. He was a prince of the Catuvellauni and led warriors of the Silures tribe in a battle against the Romans. Caractacus and his army managed to fend off the Romans, slowing down the colonisation of Wales. He was eventually captured by the Romans years later, but his early victory is similar to that of Boudica and a story worth telling.

The World Needs to Know About Welsh History

In fact, as well as offering exciting storylines and themes, Wales has enough natural beauty to make online slots pop. Ireland’s rolling green hills are iconic in the gaming world, so why can’t the valleys? Throw in some castles, green fields and imposing mountains, and you’ve got slots that look great while offering exciting storylines.

Wales and Welsh history don’t always get the love they deserve. That’s true in a lot of industries, and casino gaming is one of them. Even though software developers are happy to make hundreds of slots based on the Romans et al. Welsh icons have been ignored. So, can Wales inspire the next wave of gaming trends? Yes, and, in our opinion, they should because there’s a lot of history the world needs to know about.
