Bridgend County Borough Council in partnership with Plan B Management Solutions and community-based charity Groundwork Wales has officially opened the new reuse shop at Pyle Community Recycling Centre.
The shop, which has been trading since May of this year, was officially opened by members of Bridgend County Borough Council including its Leader Cllr John Spanswick, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and the Environment Cllr Paul Davies and local ward members Cllr Huw David and Cllr Jane Gebbie (Deputy Leader).
Residents can either donate or buy items in good condition, such as household furniture and electrical goods that would otherwise be diverted to landfill. Also, all proceeds from the sale of items support Groundwork Wales, which supports practical action to create a fair and green future in which people, places and nature thrive.
The shop is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays between 9amand 3pm, and follows the successful re-opening of The Sidings re-use shop at Maesteg community recycling centre, which Groundwork Wales has been running for over a year. I am so pleased that a second reuse shop in Bridgend County Borough is open for business. The successful reopening of the Sidings at Maesteg community recycling centre last year has proved that there is an overwhelming demand for reusable items, with hundreds of items being donated and recycled.
I am certain that the opening of the new reuse shop at Pyle community recycling centre will prove to be just as successful and will help us as a community to further reduce the need for landfill in the county borough, not only benefitting the environment, but also local charities and household budgets, as residents are sure to be able to pick up a bargain.
Bridgend County Borough is one of the top three local authorities for recycling and initiatives like these can only help us to keep working towards a more sustainable future.

Katy Stevenson, CEO of Groundwork Wales said ‘The Furniture Revival, our furniture recycling and reuse social enterprise is one of Wales’ longest established furniture reuse operations, and our Retail and Reuse Manager, Byron James, has taken it from strength to strength.
We are very excited to be working with Plan B and Bridgend County Borough Council to bring this service to the people of Bridgend.
With the current cost of living crisis this is a great offer to support with affordable household items, but also to remove items from landfill, and we’ve also created one full time role this year. We look forward to growing these operations.’
