Buddy the elf pops up to launch spectacular ICC Wales Christmas show

Buddy the Elf, aka actor David Birch, pops up to launch Elf The Musical, this year’s Christmas show at ICC Wales

Buddy the Elf took an unseasonal summer trip to Newport to announce the latest spectacular Christmas show to arrive at ICC Wales.

Elf The Musical is a smash hit retelling of the blockbuster movie starring Will Ferrell and is set to wow family audiences in South Wales over the festive season, from December 14 to January 4.

Buddy was in typically excitable mood when he arrived in Newport a few months early to announce the Christmas run, meeting the famous 10m tall steel red dragon that stands proudly outside the venue and bouncing off the walls of the 1,500-seat theatre where the show will be staged.

Buddy, aka actor David Birch, said: “It’s so exciting to be here in Wales and the whole team can’t wait to put on this fantastic show over the Christmas season. I’ve always enjoyed playing cheerful, happy roles and I love the childlike innocence and enthusiasm of the Buddy character.

“Will Ferrell is one of my favourite actors and he was absolutely amazing in the film, so I feel very privileged to be playing this part. Christmas is such a special time of the year for bringing people together and I think this is the perfect show for the whole family to enjoy fun and laughter together.”

Produced by The World’s Biggest Productions Limited, Elf the Musical is based on the hit New Line Cinema film by David Berenbaum, starring Will Ferrell. The story is magically recreated with catchy music, exciting sets, punchy jokes and a heartwarming tale to capture the imagination of all ages.

With a book by Bob Martin and Thomas Meehan and an original score of great songs by Matt Sklar and Chad Beguelin, the show has delighted audiences on both Broadway and the West End, as well as on sell-out arena tours.

Audiences should prepare to release their inner elf. After all, as Buddy himself might say, “The best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear!”

There are also opportunities to make it an even more special occasion by adding a themed afternoon tea, a pre-show VIP Lounge experience or overnight accommodation at the Celtic Manor Resort, Coldra Court Hotel or Tŷ Hotel Newport. Tickets for the show running from December 14 to January 4 start from £23 and can be purchased here.
