A partnership is offering Welsh learners the chance to test their language skill in the great outdoors.
The Clwydian Range and Dee valley National Landscapes has teamed up with Menter Iaith Wrecsam a Fflint to host outdoor guided walks in some of the area’s well-known locations through the medium of Welsh.
A successful guided walk has already been held at Ty Mawr Country Park and this month a walk will be held at Loggerheads Country Park on October 10 at 2pm, followed by another walk at Chirk Castle on October 28, again at 2pm.
Both events are free, and all Welsh learners are welcome to attend.
Councillor Alan James, Denbighshire Cabinet Lead Member for Local Development and Planning, said: “We do have some fantastic iconic locations in the National Landscapes area to explore and this is a really good initiative to help support the Welsh Language.
“The idea of these walks is to show people just a few of these iconic locations across the National Landscape, while also giving people a comfortable outdoor space to practise speaking in Welsh.”
The general idea behind the walks is to get people out into some of the National Landscape’s most iconic destinations, whilst also learning and building confidence in their Welsh speaking. These events are organised in partnership between Menter Iaith Wrecsam a Fflint and the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape. The events are free and welcome to all Welsh learners.
Maiwenn Berry, Chief Officer of Menter Iaith Fflint and Wrecsam said, “Menter Iaith Flint and Wrecsam is proud to follow in the footsteps of other initiatives across Wales which have arranged various activities to arouse the interest of Welsh speakers and learners in the natural world as part of the national project ‘Wild Roots’ funded by the Heritage Fund of the National Lottery.
“These trips, which are also supported by Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych, are an opportunity to introduce Welsh names for the native wildlife of the area, fostering a sense of local pride while exploring areas of exceptional local beauty”
The events are bookable through the Ticketsource website, or for more information please email: [email protected]
