Thomas Carroll has been recognised as a leader in the insurance industry, winning two major accolades at the UK Broker Awards.

The independent insurance, risk, wealth management and insurtech company, based in Caerphilly, was awarded Broker of the Year, while Callum Higgins from the Newport office proudly took home the Young Broker of the Year title.

Over 450 industry experts gathered at Birmingham NEC to honour the best in the business. Thomas Carroll was awarded the most prestigious title of the night, Broker of the Year.

Host Keith Farnan highlighted Thomas Carroll’s independence, noting that the judges were impressed by its unique position as “a true independent in a sector increasingly monopolised by large-scale operators.” He also commended the company’s transition to employee ownership, saying it “provided ample proof that investing in people and communities is the way to build a successful business.”

Meanwhile, Callum Higgins, who joined Thomas Carroll in 2020, stood out among four other talented finalists to win Young Broker of the Year. Initially starting as a commercial broker, Callum’s rapid progress has seen him take on responsibility for some of the company’s largest corporate clients. He has already completed his Chartered Insurance qualification and is now considering pursuing his Fellowship.

These achievements follow Thomas Carroll’s recent success at the British Insurance Awards, where the company also took home UK Insurance Broker of the Year, repeating its 2018 win.

Gareth Cotty, Chief Commercial Officer at Thomas Carroll, said of the wins: “This year has been monumental for Thomas Carroll, with our team earning recognition at two of the industry’s most respected awards. Winning Broker of the Year twice in such a short span is an incredible achievement. But Callum’s recognition as Young Broker of the Year really was the icing on the cake.

“Becoming an employee-owned business was about investing in the future of our team, our clients and our company. To see one of our young, ambitious colleagues honoured by our peers is a proud moment for us all. The judges’ feedback was a testament to the hard work and passion we bring every day. It was a fantastic evening celebrating Thomas Carroll’s journey and the bright future ahead for Callum and our business.”
