Unique opportunity to acquire historic Cardiff farmhouse on the Taff Trail

Credit: Savills

An historic Grade II* listed farmhouse, considered ‘one of the most completely preserved early vernacular houses of the county’ has been brought to the market for sale by Savills.

Dating back to the 1500s, Gelynis Farm is a substantial farmhouse, encompassing a two bedroom family home, and seven en-suite bedroom guest wing, which recently operated as a B&B.

The unique property is situated in Morganstown, a semi-rural suburb on the north western edge of Cardiff, close to visitor destination, Castell Coch. The popular Taff Trail borders the grounds, providing direct access to and from the city centre (5.5 miles) and Cardiff Bay (7.2 miles) by foot or bike.

The farmhouse spans approximately 4,570 sq. ft (425 sq. m) accommodation across its central and eastern wings. The central wing comprises a main reception room, kitchen and sitting room to the ground floor, and two bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor. The eastern wing provides seven en-suite guest bedrooms, four of which are self-contained with external access, along with a separate kitchen and dining room.

The farmhouse is situated within attractive landscaped ‘country garden’ grounds extending to approximately an acre. Its countryside surroundings take in Castell Coch, which sits prominently on the nearby hillside.

Caroline Jones, from Savills Cardiff is marketing the  property and commented: ‘With growing demand for visitor accommodation in Cardiff, Gelynis Farm could be an exciting hospitality business opportunity. Or it could be very easily reconfigured into a substantial family home.

‘With access over a new railway bridge, the property is uniquely positioned within easy reach of the city via the A470, and on foot or bike using the Taff Trail – while at the same time offering a rural community feel and plenty of local amenity and interest. Its wider connectivity is excellent too, being less than three miles from the M4 Coryton Roundabout.

‘The farmhouse itself is rich in historic character and set within very pretty and expansive mature gardens, which offer yet further scope for enhancements and diversifications.’

Gelynis Farm is being offered to the market on a freehold basis and with vacant possession for a guide price of £750,000. The closing date for submission of offers is 12 noon on Monday 16 December 2024.
