Wrexham man jailed for 15 years for child sex abuse

Police

Wayne Greenshields, of Plas Isaf, Rhosymedre, Wrexham, appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court for sentence yesterday, Wednesday, December 18th, having been convicted of nine offences.

They included three counts of sexual activity, two counts of sexual assault, inciting sexual activity, rape and two counts of attempted rape.

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison and handed an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim who was abused by Greenshields over a two-year period.

It was when she bravely disclosed what had happened to a parent that he was arrested in July 2022.

He denied the offences but was found guilty on nine counts by a jury at Mold Crown Court last month.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Jane Burns said: “Greenshields appalling behaviour has left psychological trauma with the victim and her family, which will remain with them forever.

“He groomed the victim and subjected her to the most terrible sexual abuse over a prolonged period, leaving her in fear of him and what he might do.

“I applaud her courage in speaking up and reporting such serious offences, and for her continued bravery throughout the investigation.

“Although today’s sentence will not take away all the trauma and distress caused, I hope it will provide some comfort knowing he can bring no harm to anybody else.

“I urge anyone who has experienced such behaviour to get in touch with us and not suffer in silence. You will be listened to and supported by police.”
