Feedback wanted on another three Swansea skate park proposals

Skateboarders, wheel sports enthusiasts and members of the public can now give online feedback on initial designs for another three improved neighbourhood skate parks in Swansea.

These images show the improved facilities being proposed for the Phoenix Centre in Townhill, Mynydd Newydd in Penlan and Coed Bach in Pontarddulais.

They’re among the neighbourhood skate park sites that will benefit from a Swansea Council investment worth close to £3m in skateboarding and wheel sports facilities across the city.

The council is working closely with local communities and a specialist company called Curve Studio who have made the online consultation available.

This follows-on from drop-in workshop events that were held in Townhill, Penlan and Pontarddulais in late November.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Investment, Regeneration and Tourism, said: “Skateboarding and other wheel sports are very popular in Swansea, so we want to make sure people who enjoy these activities have access to great facilities.

“Feedback from those who will use the facilities is important because they know more than anyone else what works best and what meets their aspirations.

“That’s why we’d encourage skateboarders, wheel sports enthusiasts and others to take part in this online consultation, which follows in-person feedback that was gathered at workshops in Pontarddulais, Townhill and Penlan in late November.

“More locations to benefit from similar improvements will be announced in the New Year as part of a plan aimed at ensuring most people in Swansea won’t have to travel more than two miles to reach an improved neighbourhood skate park.”

The skate ramp area of Victoria Park has also been announced as a location to benefit from improvements. A street plaza-style facility is being proposed there, which skateboarders and the local community have helped shape thanks to a workshop held in October.
