Cllr Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, with responsibility for Cultural Services, said:
“The Council is delighted to welcome some big names in the music industry to the Park & Dare Theatre this summer as it plays a leading role in delivering the first Rhondda Arts Festival in Treorchy.
“What a weekend we have in store, with Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra on the Friday Night, followed by Only Men Aloud the following evening – and much more still yet to be announced.
“Having such a big name in the world of music and entertainment come to the Park & Dare Theatre is testament to the quality of performers we are able to attract.
“Treorchy is a town rich in musical heritage – it is home to the iconic Park & Dare Theatre and was where Welsh entertainer Max Boyce recorded his first album ‘Live at Treorchy,’ which went on to make him a household name.
“The Festival has the potential to build on Rhondda’s legacy as an area of cultural significance and the event is expected to become a firm feature in the Arts calendar.”
Only Men Aloud, and special guests, are at the Park & Dare Theatre, Treorchy, on Saturday, June 30. Tickets are priced £20 and are available from the Box Office on 03000 040 444 or online at www.rct-theatres.co.uk
