Year 10 hockey stars had a week to remember after national success

A pair of hockey stars had a week to remember after claiming further national success with their regional side.

Josh Thomas and Tegid Goodman-Jones, Lower Sixth Form and Year 10 pupils at Rydal Penrhos, were part of the Colwyn Bay U18 side that clinched the national championship with a resounding 3-1 triumph over Whitchurch on Saturday, April 28.

The pair returned from the Newtown showcase with another accolade for their impressive collection, with Josh and Tegid part of Rydal Penrhos’ U18 and U16 sides that secured a National Schools’ Championship double at the same venue last week.

The duo have been working incredibly hard as part of the youth set-up over the last six weeks in readiness for the event, which has seen the group play a series of friendly matches against teams such as Wrexham, Chester and Denbigh Men’s First team.

Josh is a Hockey Wales international goalkeeper who has enjoyed a fine young career to date both regionally and nationally, while North Wales squad member Tegid is another with an incredibly bright future thanks to his talent and ongoing commitment to the sport.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said:

“We are very proud of what Josh and Tegid have managed to accomplish with Colwyn Bay, and we congratulate both of them and the team in general on their magnificent achievement.

“Rydal Penrhos has a rich and proud history of hockey success and these latest achievements for both school and club are a testament to not only the ability of the two players, but their willingness to learn and get better at their craft.”
