Café TwoCann, which operated in SA1’s J-Shed for many years, has now launched its new café in the beautiful and historic surroundings of Swansea Council’s Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.
The menu includes breakfast, lunch and light bites, plus cakes, afternoon teas, speciality coffees and smoothies.
The council has been looking for a specialist partner to run the catering facility in the gallery which has a busy, high-profile Alexandra Road location due to benefit further from the ongoing city centre regeneration.

Robert Francis-Davies, the council’s cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: “We want visitors to have first-rate and good value food and drink options matching the unique qualities of the gallery – and we’re confident that TwoCann Glynn Vivian will provide that.
“They understand and share our ambitions to attract more people to the venue. They will create an offer that is unique, attractive and in line with our audience’s needs and expectations.
“TwoCann Glynn Vivian will offer a high quality cost-effective service that helps us to sustain the venue for the long term through increasing the commercial sales and revenues, supporting our ambitions for growth.
“This is further evidence that Swansea city centre is on the up – and it’s great that yet another superb café is opening.”
Dennis Cann, who owns and runs Café TwoCann with business partner Kate Taylor, said, “We are really excited about being selected to run TwoCann Glynn Vivian, and we look forward to seeing our friends and loyal customers from the days of Café TwoCann in SA1.
“Jonathan Thyer heads up the operation and will be supported by Katering TwoCann which provides catering to the increasing number of events at the gallery.
“We will, of course, still be operating TwoCann @ St Pauls in Aberavon for our fabulous loyal customers from Neath Port-Talbot and Katering TwoCann which is based on Swansea Enterprise Park; the latter provides catering for weddings, business meetings and customers throughout Gower and south Wales.”
The Glynn Vivian, built in 1911, has flourished since it reopened in October 2016 after a multi-million pound redevelopment.
It is funded and run by the council, with partnership funding from Arts Council of Wales. It is part of the Plus Tate scheme, a national partnership connecting art visitors and people around the UK and bringing world class exhibitions from the Tate’s own collection every year.
The gallery has around 500 events a year, including exhibition previews, workshops, talks, tours, films and late night events. There is a regular learning programme for local organisations who meet at the gallery regularly.
It hosts exhibitions, collections displays and learning activities, working with local, national and international partners. The gallery has a lecture theatre suitable for conferences and seminars, meetings and events, which sit alongside state of the art exhibition spaces, accredited to host world class touring exhibitions.
Its main public catering is the café, immediately inside the new street level entrance alongside the shop and gallery reception.
