With a mixed bag of weather predicted for the Bank Holiday weekend, we’ve created a list of fun things to do in indoors in Wales.
We know it’s not Derek’s fault, no really, we don’t, but your heart does sink a little when Wales is forecast to get wind & rain, with a potential thunderstorm and may be a little glimpse of sunshine.

Let’s face it, we were all spoilt with the sunshine during the last Bank Holiday in May. Who could have predicted a 10-degree drop in temperature the day that we’re back in work, absolutely marvellous!
It’s nice to get outdoors, especially when we live in such a beautiful country with award winning beaches and hundreds of castles. Let’s face it, the Welsh were made for the great outdoors.
Although the weather may not be looking so good this weekend, there is plenty of fun things to do (indoors).
Here are our top picks…
1. The Hay Festival
With plenty of events indoors (as well as out), don’t let the wet put you off visiting one of the year’s must-attend events in Wales.
The Hay Festival began on Thursday, 24th May with events on until Sunday 3rd June.

2. Llechwedd Slate Caverns
Visit the Llechwedd Slate Caverns, the world famous underground attraction in Snowdonia, North Wales. It has probably been on your to-do list for a while, so why not cross it off this weekend?

3. Go on a journey of discovery and science
With locations in both South Wales and North Wales, Techniquest is a place for everyone of all ages to discover science in a fun and interactive way. It’s about time that you went back and discovered something new.

4. The Stormtroopers are coming
As Star Wars fans rejoice with the launch of the franchise’s latest space-based saga, Cardiff Bay’s premier entertainment destination, The Red Dragon Centre, is adding to the occasion by offering film fans the chance to meet two special visitors from a galaxy far far away. Two Stormtroopers will be patrolling the Centre on Monday 28th May, meeting and greeting visitors throughout the bank holiday.

5. Get even wetter at the BlueLagoon Water Park
Keeping dry is clearly not an option this weekend, so why not embrace it?
With breathtaking rides, rapid rivers and flumes, relaxing pools and special places just for kids.
It‘s a fun-filled waterpark that guarantees thrilling aqua-adventures.

6. Go back in time at National Museum Cardiff
They say our future lies in the past… but it doesn’t matter what you believe, you shouldn’t overlook the National Museum Cardiff.
Situated in the heart of Cardiff’s elegant civic centre, it houses Wales’s national art, geology and natural history collections as well as major touring and temporary exhibitions. The art collection at National Museum Cardiff is one of Europe’s finest.

7. Play crazy golf… indoors
Who says golf has to be an outdoors sport?
Treetop Adventure Golf is located on level 3 in St David’s Shopping Centre in the heart of Cardiff, and best of all, you get the jungle experience without the rain.

8. Pick up the pace with karting
If your idea of a relaxing bank holiday weekend is doing laps at speed around a go kart track, then South and West Wales is full of great indoor tracks for you to get a handle on.

9. Go on a sea safari at Anglesey Sea Zoo
Anglesey Sea Zoo is a unique aquarium with over 40 tanks displaying the best of British marine wildlife!
