Extremely thin foal rescued from Gelligaer Common

RSPCA Cymru is appealing for information to track down the owner of a second extremely thin pony rescued from Gelligaer Common.

Deputy chief inspector Gemma Black attended Gelligaer Common on Friday (7 February) with assistance from Redwings, The British Horse Society and World Horse Welfare and the local authority, following concerns made for the pony – aged around nine months.

Gemma said: “After some time searching we found the youngster who was clearly extremely thin.

“This pony is now in our care and is receiving treatment and the appropriate care. At first he wasn’t eating, but on Monday (10 February) he ate really well, so we’re hopeful he is on the mend.

“He doesn’t have a microchip so we can’t trace his owners, so we’re appealing for anyone with information to contact us on our inspector appeal line 0300 123 8018.”

This pony is the second to be rescued from the common in the last couple of weeks. Another extremely thin pony was found at Gelligaer Common and taken into RSPCA care on Thursday 30 January.
