Prospective students interested in studying at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) are having the opportunity to attend Open Days – from the comfort of their own homes.
Because of the Coronavirus outbreak, the University has postponed its usual Open Days. Not wanting prospective students to miss out on the chance to attend an event, UWTSD has organised a series of Open Days and Open Evenings that will allow attendees to learn more about the University and the courses it offers.
All events are drop-in sessions and will be held online on Microsoft Teams. All registered guests will receive an email invitation to join the event.
During the sessions, participants will be able to discuss a range of topics including the courses offered, the structure of the programmes as well as their entry requirements. These sessions will also give people the opportunity to meet lecturers and other attendees in an informal and relaxed manner.
Elaine Sharpling, Academic Director of Teacher Education at UWTSD’s Athrofa: Institute of Education is taking part in this week’s session and is looking forward to meeting all those attending.
“In this time of uncertainty, we are offering our Open Evenings for Initial Teacher Education in a virtual way,” says Elaine. “This gives people interested in teaching an opportunity to find out about the programmes, get to know some of the staff and ask any questions. The Open Evenings consist of a warm welcome, a short presentation and then some time spent on a Q & A session where tutors can answer more specific queries about becoming a teacher.
“More importantly, it is a time for people to get to know us in a relatively informal setting – it is a relaxed, friendly and welcoming atmosphere and the all participants need to do is click on a link,” adds Elaine.
The first session is for those interested in all programmes of Initial Teacher Education (BA Primary Education & PGCE Primary and Secondary) and takes place on Thursday evening, April 23rd at 7pm.
This first session will be followed by a series of events, including:
- Social Policy & Youth and Community (undergraduate) on May 6th at 10am with a session for prospective postgraduate students at 6pm
- Early Years on May 7th at 10am & 6pm
- Humanities (undergraduate) on May 7th at 2.30pm with a postgraduate session at 6pm
- Psychology, May 12th at 6pm
- Education Studies, May 14th at 10am & 6pm
