Plans underway to resume Caerphilly library services

Caerphilly County Borough Council has confirmed that plans are underway to resume its library services.

Caerphilly Libraries has announced a series of schemes launching shortly, which will deliver alternative services to residents whilst it continues to develop plans to reopen its doors to the public.

From Wednesday 1st July the council will offer a book lending and delivery service to the home of eligible residents.  Through the LibraryLink Home Delivery scheme visits will be made every six weeks.  Residents are provided with reading or listening materials specifically chosen by the knowledgeable staff at the Caerphilly Libraries team.  This service is open to the following:

  • Current registered users of the LibraryLink service.
  • Residents over the age of 70 and who have no access to the library service eDigital offer of eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines or eComics.
  • All residents who have received a shielding letter from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Wales – regardless of age.

Anyone unable to complete the form online can contact the Caerphilly Libraries team who will submit the form on their behalf.

Residents who have items to return to libraries in the Caerphilly county borough can drop these off at entrances to Bargoed, Caerphilly and Risca Libraries from Monday 13th July.  Items should be placed in the ‘Return Book Bins’ – returned items will be cleared from library accounts and all fines accrued during the closure will be removed from accounts.

The council has also announced plans to develop an ‘Order and Collect’ service; this service is expected to be available from August.

A wealth of eServices are also available 24/7 all year round for residents to access, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eComics and eGraphic novels which can be downloaded with a compatible device.

Cllr Barbara Jones, the council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Achievement, said “We understand how important our libraries are to residents and our communities, but the safety of our staff and the public is paramount.  We are working closely with Welsh Government to plan for the eventual safe reopening of buildings but, in the meantime, will use a range of alternative methods to ensure people are still able to access library services.”
