Swansea City have announced that club legend Alan Curtis will be re-joining the club’s first-team staff ahead of their 2018/19 campaign.

The former Welsh international has not been involved in first-team coaching activities since January, during an ill-fated campaign that saw them relegated from the Premier League after a seven-season stay in the top flight.

The 64-year-old has held numerous positions at the club in a relationship that has spanned over four decades.

Alongside three spells as a player at the club – in which he made 350 appearances between 1972 and 1990 – Curtis has also served as assistant coach and as caretaker manager on three separate occasions.

His return to the fold is seen as the latest in a number of strategic manoeuvres by the club to re-instil the culture that facilitated their rise to the top-tier of the English game.

On the announcement that Curtis would be joining his coaching staff, new Swansea City head coach Graham Potters said: “I have known Alan through mutual friends for a number of years, so I know how respected and important he is at this football club – nobody knows the football club better than him.

“He brings an experience and quality that will prove really valuable to us.

“He will support the environment here. He is someone for all of us to draw on his experience, mentorship and support.

“Alan is an important person to have around and I’m excited to be working with him.”

Curtis will join assistant manager Billy Reid and recruitment analyst Kyle Macauley on Potter’s coaching staff, both of whom have followed the new manager from Swedish side Ostersunds.
