Councillor Wendy Treeby is the new Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, having been appointed at a meeting of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, held on Wednesday, January 19.

Councillor Treeby, Elected Member for Mountain Ash West, will continue the role for the remainder of the Municipal year following the departure of her predecessor, Councillor Jill Bonetto, who joins the Council Cabinet as Member for Education and Inclusion Services.

Councillor Treeby said she is looking forward to her time as Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, a place she has lived all her life and continues to champion the County Borough at every opportunity.

Councillor Treeby will be supporting many Charities during her term as Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, including Wales Air Ambulance, Stroke Association and Green Meadow Riding for the Disabled, as well as supporting the Armed Forces.

The Mayor’s Consort is Mr Paul Hammett.

Councillor Wendy Treeby, Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, speaking following her appointment, said: “It will be a huge honour for me to serve as Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf for the remainder of the Municipal year and I will do so with great pride.

“I would like to pay tribute to the work of my predecessor, Councillor Jill Bonetto, and wish her well in her new role as Cabinet Member for Education and inclusion Services with the local authority.

“The past two years have been extremely difficult for us all, and I send my heartfelt, most sincere thanks to all our frontline staff who have provided so much support and assistance to many in their times of need.

“As Mayor, I will continue to support many charities and look forward to meeting as many people as is possible and safe to do so”

Also appointed at the Council meeting on Wednesday, January 19, was Rhondda Cynon Taf Deputy Mayor, Councillor Wendy Lewis, Elected Member for Llwynypia Ward.
