Anglesey Circuit to host UK’s biggest drift event next weekend

Once a year Anglesey Circuit opens its doors to the fastest growing motor sport in the world – Drifting! This coming weekend (26-27th October) will see over 150 cars on track for two days of sideways action, making the Drift Matsuri the biggest Drift event in the UK.

he drivers, who range from novices to DriftCup, British Drift Championship and Drift Master drivers, are invited to drive on three different track layouts so there is never a dull moment. The hairpin is where some will test their new-found skills, and the bravest of the experienced drifters will try backwards entry into the corner. The Touge Track is popular for multiple cars to run door to door in what are known as “drift trains” over the undulating track, while the National Track will see entry speeds into the corners in the region of 100mph.

There is broad mix of machinery on display to please everyone. From today’s high-powered competition cars through an array of classic drift cars such as Sklyines, Silvias, Corollas and even retro drift cars including a number of Ford Escorts and an E-Type Jaguar

The organisers will also be monitoring the tracks during the day scouting for up and coming talent, and if a driver has a car up to specification, they will be invited to join the demonstration.

The battles begin at 6:30 p.m. under floodlights, and The Banking will be full of an expectant crowd who will, if past events are anything to go by, judge who is the best driver on the night! Once the demo has finished, there will be a firework display as people start to head back toward the paddock area where the ‘Party In The Pits’ will begin with DJ Mike Lewis, dropping some serious tunes into the night!

With clocks going back an hour on Sunday, the extra hour in bed will be very welcome because when the sun rises, another full day of drifting begins.
