Architecture student takes top prize in Women in Property South Wales Student Awards

Sophie Page, a BSc Architectural Studies student at Cardiff University has been announced as the regional winner at the Women in Property South Wales Student Awards.  The event, a celebration dinner held at The Classroom in Cardiff, provided employers in the property and construction sector with a platform to engage with some of the most promising undergraduates in the built environment sector.

Sophie’s exceptional qualities stood out to the judges, who described her as “an outstanding candidate, confident and very focussed, clearly an incredible work ethic, a dedicated student with a passion for what she does.”

Hannah Lewis-Jones, Chair of Women in Property South Wales and Account Lead, Health at Mott MacDonald, was delighted for Sophie, stressing the importance of supporting and recognising local talent. She emphasised the ongoing collaboration between universities and businesses in the region to nurture skilled professionals in the face of a persistent skills shortage, and gender imbalance in the industry.

The Women in Property Student Awards programme, sponsored nationally by Amazon, Bouygues UK, Savills and tp bennett, as well as regionally by HLM Architects and Hoare Lea, aims to showcase top-performing built environment students and highlight the diverse career opportunities within the industry.  Sophie’s success underscores the calibre of talent within South Wales.

On winning the award, Sophie Page said: “I am honoured to receive this prestigious award and to stand alongside such an inspirational group of women at this year’s ceremony. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities and unwavering support this organisation has provided to me and so many other young women. I am proud to be a part of such an uplifting community and look forward to playing an ongoing role in their efforts to empower women in the pursuit of exciting and rewarding careers in this vital sector of our national economy.”

Sophie Bowyer, the Women in Property Student Awards regional ambassador, who also won the award in 2019, said: “As ambassador of the Women in Property South Wales Student Awards, I am in awe of the amazing young women who want to join the sector. Having won this award in 2019 myself, I can see how rewarding the journey is from being an ambitious student to someone who is loving every minute of a job I always wanted to do. For Sophie and the other fantastic nominees, their futures in property are truly bright and I wish them all the very best.”

The national final, on Thursday 19th September in London, will see Sophie compete against 13 other students from across the UK for the prestigious national award.  The winner will be announced at the Best of the Best Dinner at Claridge’s later that evening.
