A children’s cancer charity has received a financial boost from Cardiff-based housebuilder Bellway Wales.
The housebuilder donated £500 to LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity, which offers support services and accommodation for children and their families who are being treated by the Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
Bellway also provided a number of items from the charity’s Amazon Wishlist, including artificial plants, cushions, and lamps for its on-site family accommodation.
Menai Owen-Jones, Chief Executive of LATCH, said: “This donation of £500 from Bellway, in addition to the very generous gifts the company has purchased from our Amazon Wishlist for our LATCH accommodation and office, will make a real difference to our families here.
“The soft furnishings given, including throws, lamps, and other household goods, will help to ensure that our family accommodation continues to feel welcoming and homely.
“The £500 provided by Bellway can, for example, support LATCH to provide a financial grant which will enable a family to have a holiday or take some trips, if a child is well enough during treatment, which is something they may not be able to afford to do otherwise.
“The charity is entirely dependent on voluntary income and fundraising. We do not receive any government funding for our services. We rely on generous supporters like Bellway, and we greatly appreciate their support. Each year it costs in the region of £750,000 alone to cover the costs of our essential services.
“We are very grateful to Bellway and their staff for their kind support, and for choosing to support LATCH.”
Carly Maidment, Sales Manager of Bellway Wales, said: “As well as delivering homes across Wales, we endeavour to put the local community at the heart of our work, and ensure that we make contributions towards local initiatives in the areas in which we build our homes.
“LATCH provides an invaluable service for the families of children with cancer in Wales. We are incredibly pleased to be providing this donation of goods and money to what is an incredibly deserving charity only a short distance from our divisional head office in Cardiff.”
