The Queen of British Soul and West End performer Beverley Knight MBE has been announced as the headline act at this year’s Child of Wales awards.
The singer songwriter – who’s been on the music scene for more than 25 years and begins the second leg of her biggest-ever UK tour in September – will perform at the very special annual event in Swansea Arena on Friday, September 27th.
The Child of Wales awards celebrates the inspirational achievements of the young people of Wales, while raising money for charities in Wales dedicated to helping children.
Beverley has more than two million album sales, is an Olivier Award-winning star of the West End stage as well as a judge on ITV1 talent show Starstruck. She recently portrayed Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act the Musical.
Beverley said, “I’m honoured to perform at an event which shines a light on a brave group of children and young people in Wales who face hardships and challenges every day, yet never give up. It will be a very special evening full of inspiring people and stories and I’m very much looking forward to it.”
Long-time supporter of the Child of Wales awards and BBC Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones will host the ceremony for the third time.
The Child of Wales Choir – featuring around 80 children aged between seven and 16 from across Wales, including ITV The Voice Kids stars Gracie Fitzgerald and Eva-Ossei Gerning – will open the awards from Mark Jermin Stage School.
Steve Balsamo, best known for playing the lead role in the West End’s Jesus Christ Superstar, will be singing a beautiful song written for Joseph’s Smile with the Black Mountain Voices. Joseph’s Smile is one of the chosen charities alongside 2WishCymru.
Founder of the Child of Wales awards Blanche Sainsbury said, “We’re absolutely thrilled Beverley is taking time out of her tour to be with us at the awards, the winners, families and charities that support them are in for a night to remember.”
