Cardiff Council has arrived at a significant milestone in its exciting scheme to regenerate the Channel View estate.
Representing the largest and most exciting holistic estate redevelopment within the council’s development programme, the scheme in Grangetown will deliver around 319 new highly energy-efficient, low-carbon mixed-tenure homes, including the replacement of the existing 180 Council-managed properties.
Following the conclusion of the procurement process for the appointment of a developing partner for the project, a preferred bidder has been identified to deliver the entire scheme.
At its next meeting on Thursday, September 21, Cabinet will consider the recommendation to delegate authority to officers in consultation with theCabinetMemberHousing and Communities, Cllr Lynda Thorne, toappoint the preferred bidder to the scheme.

Cllr Thorne, said: “This is an important milestone in our exciting plans for Channel View and the next step in transforming this part of Grangetown into a greener, more sustainable and more attractive neighbourhood for the community.
“The scheme is a major part of our plans to increase the availability of good quality, affordable housing for the city by delivering more than 2,700 new council homes over the coming years.
“There are various due diligence processes that need to take place that will enable us to move to the delivery stage of the redevelopment.
The preferred bidder will deliver the entire project, commencing with the Phase 1 plans for 81 flats for older people to replace the existing tower block at the estate, as well as new communal facilities and a café. These accessible and adaptable apartments will promote independent living for older people, meeting their changing needs as they age.
The redevelopment will provide better connectivity for the estate and the wider community to local facilities and transport links, improvements to the public open space at The Marl, and the creation of well-managed, attractive public realm.
The preferred bidder will also work with the Council on the design development, consultation and planning of future phases of the redevelopment, the demolition of the existing housing stock and the construction of future phases, subject to viability.
