Bus passengers and those heading to the capital for the 16th annual Cardiff Half Marathon are getting important travel advice from Cardiff Bus.
The bus operator is alerting passengers to diversions and bus stop changes throughout Sunday October 6, as 27,000 runners are expected to flood the city’s streets.
Wales’s largest road race, which raises over £2.4 million for charity, will start at 10am.
Road closures are expected to be in place in the city centre from 4am to 1pm.
Buses from the West (services 13, 17, 18, 61, 96A) will start and end in Canton (Home Bargains) from 9am to 11am, while buses from the East and Newport (11, 30, 44/45, 49/50, 52, 57/58 and X59) will start and end at Newport Road/West Grove between 9am and 1pm.
Buses from the North (services 21, 23, 24, 27, 28B and 35) will start and end at Greyfriars Road from the first bus until 12pm, while the Baycar 6 service will be suspended until 1pm.
Additional diversions will be in place in Cathays, Grangetown, Cogan, Cardiff Bay, Sports Village, Penylan, Roath and Cyncoed.
Services 8 and 9 will not run as a cross city route and will be split in the city centre. Buses towards Heath Hospital will start and end at Churchill Way from the first bus until 3.10pm and will not be able to serve City Road, Crwys Road or Whitchurch Road. These services will run along Park Place, Colum Road, North Road to Gabalfa Interchange until 10:30am then via Boulevard De Nantes to North Road and Gabalfa Interchange until 3.10pm. Buses to the Bay or Sports Village will start from Central Square, Wood Street from first bus until 1pm.
In addition to the city centre changes, buses to Pontprennau and Cyncoed (services 52, 57 & 58) will not serve West Grove, Richmond Road, Albany Road, Wellfield Road, Penylan Road between 9am and 2pm and will run between the city centre and Penylan via Newport Road and Colchester Avenue in both directions. Also the 28B to Llanishen & Thornhill will divert between the city centre and Fidlas Road, by running along North Road and Heathwood Road, from first bus to 2.30pm.
Service 35 to Gabalfa will run from the city centre to Gabalfa Interchange via North Road from first bus until 12:00pm, not serving Cathays Terrace or Whitchurch Road; and on the inbound journeys will run from Gabalfa Interchange along Whitchurch Road, then Crown Way and North Road to the city centre from first bus to 2:30pm
Service 61 will start and end their journeys at Central Square (outside new BBC building) before 9am.
Services 25 and 63 will start from Central Square (outside new BBC building) from first bus until 12pm.
Services 92 & 94 to Penarth/Barry from first bus to 12pm will divert in both directions between the city centre and Penarth. Buses will start and end their journeys at their normal stop at Central Square and will follow normal route to Cornwall Street then run along North Clive Street, Clive Street, Ferry Road, A4232 Ely Link Road, Leckwith Interchange, Leckwith Hill, Llandough, Redlands Road, Foxglove Rise, Bramble Rise, Cowslip Drive and Pill Street. Buses from Penarth to Cardiff will run the reverse of the diversionary route. Penarth Road will not be served during this time.
