Volunteers Will Prepare Gift-Filled Shoeboxes for Shipment to Children in Need Overseas

Cardiff, 9th November, 2023—A Church in Cardiff is being transformed into a Pop-up Processing Centre for Operation Christmas Child, a project of the international Christian relief organisation Samaritan’s Purse. The facility will be one of four such Pop-up Processing Centres across the UK from 27th November to 2nd December, where volunteers will inspect and organise shoeboxes–filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items–for delivery to children worldwide. Shoebox gifts will also be processed at the new Samaritan’s Purse National Ministry Centre in Coventry and at a large, repurposed warehouse in Tonbridge.

Inside the Pop-up Processing centre at All Nations Church Cardiff, Sachville Avenue, Cardiff, CF14 3NY, individuals and groups from local churches, businesses and schools have committed to serve the 60 hours necessary to process and ship up to 25,000 gift-filled shoeboxes collected from across Wales. These simple shoebox gifts are tangible expressions of God’s love. For most of the boys and girls who are given a shoebox, it will be the first gift they have ever received.

“It’s amazing to see the local community come together to create a lasting impact for children around the world.” said Hannah Atkins, the local regional manager for Operation Christmas Child. “We see all ages getting involved ‐ and more and more every year.”

For more information about volunteering at the Cardiff Processing Centre, call 0208 559 1180 or visit samaritans-purse.org.uk/occ. The Pop-up processing centre will also serve as a Drop-off Location for Cardiff residents to donate gift-filled shoeboxes.

Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, seeks to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world and, together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 209 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 170 countries and territories. This year, Operation Christmas Child will celebrate its 30th year of ministry!
