Cardiff concert to celebrate life and music of legend David Bowie

A music concert celebrating the sound and life of David Bowie arrives in Cardiff this week for one night only.

The touring production pays homage to arguably one of the world’s greatest singer-songwriters, and is being hailed as a must-see for all Bowie fans.

Oliver Slee steps into Bowie’s shoes to bring a spectacular concert celebrating the sound of the rock icon to Cardiff, featuring all the hits from A to Ziggy.

Speaking ahead of this latest tour, the Bournemouth actor said he is delighted to take up the role and can’t wait to get on stage and perform it in front of fans. In addition to starring in the Bowie Experience tribute, you can also find Slee teaching drama at a theatre school in Richmond.

How did you end up performing in Bowie Experience?

“I got an audition request through my agent, safe to say my eyes lit up when I saw what the audition was for/who it was I could end up playing!”

What is the hardest bit of preparing the role?

“Definitely getting my head around the lyrics – Bowie‘s lyrics make up such weird and wonderful stories which are fantastic to listen to – and to perform – but a Queen Bitch to learn! Also mastering Bowie’s mannerisms, which changed subtly nearly every time he reinvented  himself – not just physically but vocally too. Listen to how different his voice sounds in Life On Mars? compared to Let’s Dance, for example.”

What are you most excited about?

“Once again being able to perform to a live audience. Theatres have been closed for so long and it’s going to be so much fun getting back out there – especially seeing as the audiences will be full of Bowie fans who enjoy hearing his music just as much as we love playing it on stage!”

What do you do when not performing?

“I work with children in the TV/Film industry and also work as a drama teacher at a theatre school in Richmond. I am a big football fan and so outside of the arts, try to get to as many AFC Bournemouth games as I can!”

What would you like to tell the audience?

“That I can’t wait to see them all out there and for us to have a lot of fun together whilst enjoying the legend himself’s music!”

What’s your favourite Bowie song and era?

“Such a difficult question – David’s music changes so much as you move through his back-catalogue that it’s difficult to pick a favourite song for each genre it covers, let alone one overall! If I had to choose I think Ziggy Stardust is definitely up there for me, with his early 70s stuff being my favourite era.”

Which is your favourite Bowie costume?

“Another tough one, but I would have to say Ziggy Stardust striped jumpsuit with those awesome red boots. The yellow suit with that loose polka dot bow tie is definitely a close second – effortlessly cool!”

Tell us your favourite Bowie quote or lyric?

“And these children that you spit on,

“As they try to change their worlds,

“Are immune to your consultations,

“They’re quite aware of what they’re going through.”

Don’t miss this opportunity to see and hear the legend reimagined on stage in Cardiff. So what are you waiting for? Put on your red shoes and Let’s Dance!

Tickets are now on sale with limited tickets remaining for Friday, 10 February at Cardiff’s New Theatre.
