Sam Warburton, Welsh rugby legend and Cardiff Dogs Home/The Rescue Hotel Ambassador, has received his biggest single donation yet for the refurbishment of the kennels which looks after up to 1000 stray dogs from Cardiff every year.

Animal Friends Pet Insurance has given £10,000 to the Cardiff Dogs Home so that the cramped 44 steel kennels that have drainage issues can be vastly improved. Sam has set his sights on raising £500,000 to improve the layout, construction and size of the kennels to provide higher welfare standards for the dogs. The improvements will also mean the kennels will be lighter, warmer, easier to clean and maintain.

Animal Friends was founded with the sole aim of supporting animal charities.  Every customer that joins is not only protecting their pet in their time of need, but also becoming part of something much more, as each policy ensures that animals around the world can get the care and support they need. Since its inception, Animal Friends has grown to become a multi-award winning pet insurer and is now one of the largest pet insurance providers in the UK, looking after more than 1.1 million pets.

Sam Warburton, Welsh rugby legend, said: “I love dogs and I feel really sorry for dogs who’ve been given up on. I really want to help Cardiff Dogs home raise as much money as possible so that we can improve the lives of thousands of local dogs in the coming years. The home is in desperate need of repair and I’m really grateful to Animal Friends Insurance for supporting our efforts to renovate the kennels. We’ve still got a long way to go though, so please visit my Just Giving Page even if you can only give 50p or a pound.”

Westley Pearson, Managing Director, Animal Friends, said: “Everyone here at Animal Friends Insurance is so pleased that we have been able to give Sam and Cardiff Dogs Home a big boost in their tremendous fundraising efforts for the renovations of the kennels. It’s important to us and to our customers that we continue to support the betterment of animal welfare and give back to incredible charities like The Rescue Hotel as they provide care where others can’t. These important works in Cardiff will provide the dogs, who are patiently waiting for their forever homes, a much happier, less stressed and more comfortable sanctuary.
